MEET JONI

At one point in college in one of my classes I designed my dream store. With that design and a shop building as my base, I have built this clothing store and watched those plans come to life. Not magically, but with tons of hard work, sweat and tears.

I started my alteration business in April 1989 in a spare bedroom and shortly after moved into a commercial building on the Main Street of Pratt, Kansas in 1990. I moved again in 2000 to the bridal shop next door that closed after the owners retired and is where my store currently resides. Since then the business has evolved from only sewing to the boutique it is today.

I have been sewing for most of my life. My mother owned a fabric store called The Rag Bag and it was her who first taught me how to sew. However, we didn’t get along well while sewing, so I made a deal with her. I could make anything I liked by myself, but if I needed help I could ask her for assistance.

All through high school I was the costume designer for our theater department and I helped in the bridal shop on Main Street. When I got to college I figured out how to make a little extra money doing alterations for friends.

Growing up in a family who owned small businesses, it was only natural I went into a business for myself. My parents taught me a good work ethic and it was from them I learned how to run a business.

To this day I continue to update my sewing skills through hands-on workshops and online tutorials. I love to transform major alterations and find the greatest satisfaction in watching someone look in the mirror and realize they are beautiful.
